Where is Fort Gael in Elden Ring?

Fort Gael is a key location in Elden Ring, and you can find it in the fiery, scarlet-rot-infested region of Caelid. Specifically, it's situated in the western part of Caelid, just south of the Forsaken Ruins and west of the Smoldering Wall. If you're having trouble, look for a cliffside path that leads up to the fort's main gate. Getting there can be a bit tricky, but it's well worth the effort for the valuable items and the boss fight waiting inside.
My first time stumbling into Caelid was a complete accident. I was just exploring, probably under-leveled, and suddenly the sky turned red and everything looked like it was actively trying to kill me. I remember seeing Fort Gael from a distance and thinking, "That looks important," but I was so intimidated by the giant dogs and monstrous birds that I turned right around. It wasn't until later, when I was properly geared up, that I ventured back and took on the challenge. It’s a good idea to have your trusty steed, Torrent, ready for this area. If you're not sure how to get him, check out our guide on how to summon the horse in Elden Ring.
What to Expect at Fort Gael
Once you arrive, you’ll find that Fort Gael is heavily guarded by Radahn's soldiers and knights. Here's a quick rundown of what you'll encounter and what you can find:
- Enemies: Be prepared to face a variety of Radahn's forces, including soldiers with torches and greatswords, knights, and even a lion guardian miniboss.
- Key Items: The fort holds some valuable loot. The most important is the Starscourage Heirloom, a talisman that increases your Strength stat. You'll also find the Flame, Grant Me Strength incantation, which is great for faith-based builds.
- Waygate: At the top of the fort, there's a waygate that will teleport you to Redmane Castle. This is a crucial step if you're planning to take on the Starscourge Radahn boss fight.
I have to admit, the lion guardian gave me a run for my money. I went in thinking it would be a pushover, but its quick attacks and aggressive nature caught me off guard. I probably died more times to that lion than I'd like to admit. It was a good lesson in not underestimating any enemy in Elden Ring, no matter how big or small.
Clearing out Fort Gael is a satisfying experience, and the rewards are well worth the challenge. The Starscourge Heirloom became a staple in my build for a long time, and the Flame, Grant Me Strength incantation is a must-have for any pyromancer. So, gear up, summon your courage, and get ready to conquer Fort Gael!
