But did you know you can make them even stronger? Upgrading your spirit summons is a great way to give yourself an edge in battle. I remember struggling with a particularly nasty boss for hours. I tried everything, but I just couldn't beat it. Then, I decided to upgrade my favorite spirit summon, the Lone Wolf Ashes. The next time I faced the boss, my wolves were much more powerful and we took it down in no time!

To upgrade your summons in Elden Ring, you need to complete a short questline involving an NPC named Roderika. Once you complete her quest, she will become a Spirit Tuner and can upgrade your Spirit Ashes using Grave Glovewort and Ghost Glovewort.

How to Upgrade Your Summons

Upgrading your summons is a pretty straightforward process once you know what to do. Here’s a step-by-step guide:

1. Meet Roderika: You’ll first meet Roderika at the Stormhill Shack in Limgrave. Talk to her and she’ll give you the Spirit Jellyfish Ashes.

2. Talk to Roderika at the Roundtable Hold: After you’ve rested at a Site of Grace, Roderika will move to the Roundtable Hold. You’ll find her standing near the fireplace. Talk to her again and she’ll tell you that she wants to find her purpose.

3. Talk to Smithing Master Hewg: Go to the blacksmith, Smithing Master Hewg, and talk to him about Roderika. He’ll mention that he sees potential in her.

4. Talk to Roderika again: Go back to Roderika and tell her what Hewg said.

5. Talk to Hewg one more time: Finally, go back to Hewg and talk to him one last time. After this, Roderika will move to the spot across from Hewg and become a Spirit Tuner.

Now you can talk to Roderika anytime you want to upgrade your Spirit Ashes. It’s a good idea to upgrade your favorite summons as much as you can. I made the mistake of spreading my upgrades too thin at first. I tried to upgrade all of my summons a little bit, but that just meant that none of them were very strong. It wasn't until I focused on upgrading my Mimic Tear Ashes that I really started to see a difference. A fully upgraded Mimic Tear is an absolute beast and can make even the toughest boss fights much easier.

Where to Find Upgrade Materials

To upgrade your Spirit Ashes, you’ll need two types of materials:

• Grave Glovewort: This is used to upgrade standard Spirit Ashes. You can find it in catacombs and other underground areas.
• Ghost Glovewort: This is used to upgrade elite Spirit Ashes. It’s much rarer than Grave Glovewort and can be found in a few specific locations, such as the Ainsel River and Nokron, Eternal City.
