What is Capital Gold in Clash of Clans?

Capital Gold is a special currency in Clash of Clans used exclusively within the Clan Capital. It's vital for upgrading buildings, defenses, and even unlocking new districts in your clan's shared capital base. Unlike the regular Gold, Elixir, and Dark Elixir you gather in your Home Village, Capital Gold belongs to the clan collectively, even though each player earns it individually. When you contribute Capital Gold to an upgrade, it's a permanent boost for the entire clan's progress, meaning the upgrade stays even if you leave the clan.
How You Get Capital Gold
Earning Capital Gold is all about working with your clan. Here are the main ways to get it:
- The Forge: This building, unlocked at Town Hall 6 when your clan is Level 2, is your main way to make Capital Gold. You can convert your extra Home Village and Builder Base resources (like Gold, Elixir, and Dark Elixir) into Capital Gold. Higher Town Hall levels unlock more crafting slots, and a free Builder is needed for each slot to craft Capital Gold, taking a few days to complete. There's also a free slot that generates a small amount of Capital Gold daily.
I remember when the Forge first came out, I totally underestimated it. I was so focused on my regular village upgrades that I often forgot to assign a builder to the Forge. Once I started consistently converting resources, I saw how quickly my personal Capital Gold stash grew, and it made a real difference in helping our clan upgrade crucial defenses.
- Raid Weekends: These happen weekly from Friday to Monday and are the biggest source of Capital Gold. Your clan attacks other Clan Capitals, and you earn Capital Gold based on how much destruction you cause. Clearing entire districts gives big bonuses, and you even get extra gold if your troops survive after clearing a district.
- Season Challenges & Special Events: Sometimes, completing specific challenges or participating in limited-time events will reward you with Capital Gold.
- Gold Pass: If you have the Gold Pass, you can use the Builder Boost feature to speed up Capital Gold production in the Forge, helping you earn more faster.
What Capital Gold Is Used For
Once you have Capital Gold, you'll use it to improve your Clan Capital:
- Upgrading Buildings and Defenses: This is the primary use. Every structure in the Clan Capital, from defensive towers to resource generators, needs Capital Gold to level up. When enough Capital Gold is contributed by clan members, the upgrade finishes instantly - no builders or timers needed!.
- Restoring Ruins: Many districts start with ruins that need to be rebuilt with Capital Gold before they become active buildings or defenses.
- Unlocking and Upgrading Districts: As your Capital Hall levels up, you can unlock new districts. Upgrading the District Halls within these areas also requires Capital Gold and often unlocks new troops or spells for Capital raids.
- Troop and Spell Upgrades: Unlike the Home Village, troops and spells in the Clan Capital are upgraded by leveling up their specific Barracks or Spell Factory buildings, which also costs Capital Gold.
Just last month, our clan was trying to upgrade our Dragon Cliffs district, and we were short on Capital Gold for the Super Dragon Barracks. I saw that many members were just dumping gold into walls. I hopped into clan chat and suggested we all focus on the barracks first. It took a little coordination, but within a day, we had those Super Dragons unlocked, and our raid attacks improved a ton!
Capital Gold is a collective effort, so coordinating with your clan on what to upgrade is key to making your Clan Capital strong and getting better rewards during Raid Weekends.
