What Does Phantom Do in Among Us?

The Phantom in Among Us is a special Impostor role that can temporarily turn invisible. This ability, called "Vanish," allows the Phantom to disappear from the sight of living Crewmates, making it easier to escape after a kill or to get into a good position to surprise a lone player.
What Does the Phantom Role Do Exactly?
The Phantom is one of the unique roles given to Impostors in Among Us. Its main goal, like any Impostor, is to eliminate enough Crewmates to win the game. The special part about the Phantom is its ability to "Vanish" and "Appear".
When you use the Vanish ability, your character becomes invisible to all living Crewmates. This can be super handy for getting away unseen after you've taken out a Crewmate. However, you're not completely hidden from everyone; other Impostors and ghosts can still see you.
There's a catch, though: you can't actually kill anyone while you're invisible. You also can't fix sabotages or open doors when vanished. So, the trick is to vanish, move to a new spot, appear, make your move, and then vanish again!
One time, I was playing as a Phantom, and I killed someone in Electrical. Right as I did, I saw another Crewmate heading my way. I quickly hit my Vanish button, and a puff of smoke came out. I darted into the vent, hoping they only saw the smoke and not me. It worked! They reported the body, but because I vanished so fast, they had no idea who it was. That quick getaway totally saved me.
The Smoky Clue
When a Phantom vanishes or reappears, there's always a puff of colored smoke that matches your character's color. Everyone can see this smoke. This means you can't just disappear and reappear anywhere without being noticed. If someone sees the smoke, they'll know an Impostor with the Phantom role is nearby.
Tips for Playing as a Phantom
- Timing is Key: Don't just vanish randomly. Save your ability for when you really need to escape after a kill or to sneak up on someone.
- Create an Alibi: After vanishing from a crime scene, try to reappear somewhere else entirely. This can help you create an alibi if someone finds the body and questions where you were.
- Use Sabotages: Sabotaging the lights can make it harder for Crewmates to see your vanish/appear animations, giving you a better chance to move around unseen.
- Beware of Other Roles: Roles like the Tracker, Engineer, or Detective can still make things tricky for you. A Tracker might still know your location even if you're invisible, and an Engineer might spot you using a vent.
I remember another game where I was the Phantom, and I thought I was being super clever. I vanished right after a kill in the Medbay, then popped out near Admin to act innocent. But someone said they saw a "purple puff of smoke" near Medbay, and guess what? I was playing as purple! My clever plan backfired because I forgot about that tell-tale smoke. Always try to vanish and reappear when no one is around, even for the smoke.
Understanding the Phantom role can really change how you play, whether you're using it as an Impostor or trying to catch one as a Crewmate.
