How to Change Chat Settings in Among Us

Want to change how you chat with other players in Among Us? It's pretty simple to do. You can switch between "Quick Chat" and "Free or Quick Chat" right from the game's settings. This lets you choose if you want to use preset phrases or type out your own messages.

Among Us is all about talking to your crewmates (and lying if you're the Impostor!). How you chat can change how you play the game. Maybe you want to quickly accuse someone, or perhaps you need to type out a detailed explanation of where you saw the Impostor. Changing your chat settings lets you pick the best way to talk.

How to Change Your Chat Settings in Among Us

Changing your chat mode in Among Us is quick and easy. Follow these steps to set up your preferred way to communicate:

1. Open Among Us: Start the game on your phone, computer, or console.

2. Go to Settings: From the main menu, look for the little gear icon, usually at the bottom or corner of the screen. This is your Settings menu.

3. Select the "Data" Tab: In the Settings menu, you'll see different tabs like "Graphics" or "Controls." Find and click on the "Data" tab.

4. Choose Your Chat Type: Under the "Data" menu, you'll see an option called "Chat Type." Here, you can pick between "Quick Chat Only" and "Free or Quick Chat."

Important Note on Free Chat:

To use "Free or Quick Chat" and type your own messages, you usually need to have an Among Us account and be above a certain age (often 13 or 18, depending on your country's rules for online consent). If you're under this age, or if you're playing on a guest account, you might only be able to use Quick Chat. Parents can also set permissions for child accounts.

Sometimes, I've had issues joining a friend's game because my chat settings didn't match theirs. It's a bit annoying when you just want to jump into a game! I remember one time, I kept getting kicked from a lobby, and it turned out I had "Quick Chat Only" on, but my friends were all using "Free Chat." Switching it in the Data tab fixed it right away, and I could finally join in and accuse everyone properly.

You might also see the chat type option when you're hosting a game or searching for one to join. This lets you filter lobbies based on the chat type. If you set your game to "Free or Quick Chat" when hosting, anyone who joins can type freely (if their own settings allow it).

I also had a funny experience where I accidentally left myself on "Quick Chat Only" during an intense game. The Impostor was cornered, and I needed to say, "I saw them vent in Electrical!" but all I could pick was "Where?" or "I accuse X." We ended up losing because I couldn't explain clearly! That's when I learned my lesson to always double-check my chat settings before a game.
