What Does Haunting Do in Among Us?

When you get "got" in Among Us, whether it's by a sneaky Impostor or a bad vote, you don't actually leave the game. Instead, you become a ghost! Haunting in Among Us means continuing to play and help your team win, even after you're dead. Ghosts have special abilities like moving through walls and seeing other ghosts, but they can't talk to living players. Crewmate ghosts focus on finishing tasks, while Impostor ghosts continue to sabotage.
When you become a ghost in Among Us, you gain some unique abilities that let you move around the map differently than when you were alive. The coolest part is that you can float right through walls, obstacles, and even other players. This makes getting around super fast and easy! You also get unlimited vision, so dark rooms or sabotaged lights won't stop you from seeing everything.
I remember one time I was playing as a Crewmate, and I got voted out really early because someone thought I was acting "sus." I was so bummed out, thinking my game was over. But then I realized I was a ghost! I could still zip around the map, and it felt pretty cool to just fly through walls. I made it my mission to finish all my tasks, and my living Crewmates actually ended up winning by completing tasks, which was a huge relief. I felt like I still contributed a lot, even though I was just a spooky observer.
What Ghosts Can Do
Being a ghost isn't just about floating around; you still have important roles depending on whether you were a Crewmate or an Impostor.
- Move Freely: Ghosts can zoom around the map faster than living players and pass through walls, making navigation a breeze.
- Invisible to the Living: Living Crewmates and Impostors can't see you, but you can see them and other ghosts. This means you can follow players without them knowing.
- Ghost Chat: You can talk to other dead players using the ghost chat, which is a great way to bond over your untimely demise or strategize if you're both Impostor ghosts. However, living players won't see these messages.
- Cannot Interact Directly: Ghosts can't report bodies, call emergency meetings, or vote during discussions. This is the toughest part - you often see everything but can't directly warn your living teammates.
Helping Your Team From Beyond the Grave
Your main goal as a ghost depends on your original role.
If You Were a Crewmate:
Your job isn't over! Crewmate ghosts are super important because they can still complete all their unfinished tasks. If all Crewmate ghosts and living Crewmates finish their tasks, the Crewmate team wins! So, don't just idle; get those tasks done. Some tasks, like "Clear Asteroids," even have visible animations that living players can see, making it seem like a living player is doing them. Just be careful, as an Impostor might try to fake that task if they see you doing it.
If You Were an Impostor:
Even dead Impostors can help their living teammates! Impostor ghosts can still use the sabotage menu. This means you can mess with the lights, lock doors, or trigger critical sabotages like the Reactor Meltdown or Oxygen Depletion. This can create chances for your living Impostor friends to get kills or secure a win. I remember being an Impostor ghost once, and my teammate was struggling to get a kill. I saw a Crewmate alone in electrical, so I quickly sabotaged the lights. My living Impostor friend swooped in and got the kill without anyone seeing, and we won the game! It felt pretty good to still contribute to the chaos.
The Guardian Angel Role
Sometimes, the first Crewmate to die might even become a "Guardian Angel" if this role is enabled in the game settings. This special ghost can protect a living Crewmate for a short time, shielding them from an Impostor's attack. It's a neat way to give dead Crewmates an extra power to help out.
In Among Us, being a ghost means your involvement doesn't end with death; instead, you gain unique ways to support your team to victory.
