How Long is Elden Ring?

Trying to figure out how long Elden Ring is can feel as massive as the Lands Between itself. It's a huge game, and how much time you sink into it really depends on what kind of player you are.
The short answer is that if you only focus on the main story quests, you can expect to beat Elden Ring in about 50 to 70 hours. But honestly, almost no one plays it that way. If you’re like me and get distracted by every shiny object and mysterious cave, you're probably looking at over 130 hours to see and do everything.
I remember my first playthrough. My goal was simple: beat the main bosses and finish the story. That plan lasted about two hours. I saw a cool-looking castle in the distance, went to explore it, and suddenly, a whole day had passed, and I was fighting some crazy boss in a basement I didn't even know existed. That’s the magic of this game.
How Long Will You Spend in the Lands Between?
Because Elden Ring is a massive open-world game, your playtime can change a lot. Let’s break it down to see where you might fit in.
- Main Story Only: If you have amazing self-control and only stick to the necessary bosses and areas, you’re looking at about 60 hours. This means ignoring most side quests and optional dungeons.
- Main Story + Extras: This is how most people play. You do the main story but also explore a good chunk of the side content, complete character questlines, and find cool weapons. This will take you around 90-110 hours.
- 100% Completionist: If you want to find every secret, every weapon, every spell, and beat every single boss, you are in for a long ride. A full completionist run will easily take 135 hours or more. Some players I know have spent over 200 hours and still find new things.
My personal save file is sitting at around 150 hours, and I'm still not sure I've found everything. I spent one entire weekend just exploring Caelid, that creepy red part of the map. It was terrifying, but the rewards were totally worth it. The game just pulls you in and doesn't let go.
So, while you can technically finish it in a couple of weeks of dedicated playing, Elden Ring is a game you can easily get lost in for months.
