Helldivers 2 is the latest squad-based shooter that’s got everyone talking. But if you’re anything like me, you’re probably wondering if you can enjoy this alien-blasting fun with a friend on the same couch. So, is Helldivers 2 split screen?

The short answer is no, Helldivers 2 does not have a split-screen option. This means you can't play with a friend on the same console or PC with one copy of the game. I was pretty bummed when I found this out, as my friend and I were really looking forward to some couch co-op action. We had our snacks ready and everything! It was a bit of a letdown, especially since the first Helldivers game had this feature.

Why No Split Screen in Helldivers 2?

Trying to render the game twice on one screen for two players would be a huge technical challenge. They would have to sacrifice a lot of the game’s performance and visual quality to make it work.

I remember trying to play a graphically demanding game on split-screen a few years ago, and the frame rate was so bad it was almost unplayable. So, while it's disappointing, I can understand why the developers made this decision. They wanted to deliver the best possible visual experience, and split-screen would have compromised that.

The CEO of Arrowhead has said that adding split-screen isn't completely out of the question for the future, but it's not a priority right now. So, there's a glimmer of hope for us couch co-op fans, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

For now, the only way to team up with your buddies in Helldivers 2 is to play online. While it’s not the same as having your friend right next to you, the online experience is still incredibly fun and chaotic.
