Is Genshin Impact on the Switch?

The short answer is no, Genshin Impact is not currently available on the Nintendo Switch. While developer HoYoverse (formerly miHoYo) announced a Nintendo Switch version back in January 2020, there is still no official release date, even as of December 2025.
Fans have been waiting for years to explore the vast world of Teyvat on Nintendo's hybrid console. There was even an official trailer for the Switch version released in 2021, showing what it might look like. However, despite updates as recent as May 2022 confirming it's still "in development," specific details have been kept under wraps.
For me, as someone who loves playing Genshin Impact on my phone when I'm out and about, the idea of having it on a dedicated portable console like the Switch is super exciting. I often imagine jumping into a quick domain run or collecting some resources while I'm on a long train ride, without worrying about my phone battery draining too fast. It's a dream for sure!
What's Taking So Long for Genshin Impact on Switch?
The exact reasons for the delay aren't clear, but there are some ideas floating around. Some people think the original Nintendo Switch might not be powerful enough to run Genshin Impact smoothly. The game is pretty big and visually rich, and it even had some stability issues on the PlayStation 4 when it first launched. It makes sense that HoYoverse would want to make sure the game runs well before releasing it.
Another possibility that some players have discussed is that HoYoverse might be waiting for the newer Nintendo Switch 2, which came out in 2025. A more powerful console could handle the game much better and offer a smoother experience. If the power difference between the original Switch and the Switch 2 is big, it could be a smart move to aim for the stronger hardware.
Will It Have Cross-Play and Cross-Save?
If and when Genshin Impact does launch on the Nintendo Switch, it's highly likely to feature both cross-play and cross-save. This means you'd be able to play with friends who are on PC, PlayStation, or mobile devices. It also means you could use your existing Hoyoverse account to pick up your game right where you left off on another platform. This is a common feature for Genshin Impact across all its currently available platforms, which is great news for players who already have progress. For example, if you already play on PC, your progress would transfer to the Switch version, letting you continue your adventure seamlessly. This cross-platform ability is a big plus for many players.
I remember when Genshin Impact first came out, I was playing it on my older PC, and sometimes the frame rate would drop in busy areas. It wasn't unplayable, but it made me wonder how a graphics-heavy game like this would perform on less powerful hardware. So, when I hear about the Switch version still being developed, I totally get why they'd want to get it just right. No one wants a choppy experience, especially in a game where quick reactions matter!
For now, Switch owners will need to keep waiting for an official announcement. Genshin Impact continues to receive regular updates and new content on other platforms, so there's always plenty to do if you play on PC, PlayStation, or mobile.
