Is Genshin Impact Cross Progression?

Yes, Genshin Impact absolutely has cross-progression! You can play your game on different devices and pick up right where you left off, whether you're on PC, mobile (iOS/Android), PlayStation, or Xbox. This means your characters, items, Primogems, and quest progress all stay with you.

Genshin Impact is a huge game with lots to explore, and the ability to play across different devices makes it super convenient. Imagine starting your day exploring Teyvat on your PC, then continuing your commissions on your phone during your lunch break, and finishing up a tough boss fight on your PlayStation later that evening. That's exactly what cross-progression lets you do.

How Does Genshin Impact Cross-Progression Work?

The magic behind Genshin Impact's cross-progression is your HoYoverse account. When you play Genshin Impact, all your game data is saved to this account in the cloud. This cloud-based system keeps everything synced up. When you log into the game on a different device using the same HoYoverse account, your save data is automatically pulled up.

For PC and mobile players, it's usually pretty straightforward. You just log in with your HoYoverse email and password, and your progress is there.

If you're looking to play on PlayStation or Xbox, there's a small extra step to link your PlayStation Network (PSN) or Xbox account to your HoYoverse account. It's really important to do this the very first time you launch Genshin Impact on a new console. If you skip this step and start playing, the console will create a brand new, empty Genshin Impact account for you, and you won't be able to link your existing progress later.

I actually learned this the hard way when Xbox support for Genshin Impact came out. I was so excited to play on my Series X, but I clicked through the prompts too fast and ended up with a fresh save instead of my main one. Had to start over on a new Xbox profile to link my existing HoYoverse account correctly. It was a bit of a pain, but totally worth it to have my main account on the big screen!

What Transfers (and What Doesn't)

Most of your game progress transfers seamlessly:

However, there used to be a little snag with Genesis Crystals (the premium currency). For a while, if you bought Genesis Crystals on PlayStation, they'd only show up on your PlayStation save. But good news! With Update 5.8, Genesis Crystals became fully cross-platform. This means you can buy them on any platform and use them anywhere.

Another thing to remember is that any platform-exclusive perks, like certain gliders or weapons tied to PlayStation, usually stay on that platform. If you switch devices, they might revert to a default look or simply not be available.

This cross-progression feature really changed how I play. My commute is pretty long, and before cross-progression, I’d mostly just do daily tasks on my phone. But now, I can tackle harder domains or even story quests on my mobile, knowing I won't lose any progress when I get home to my PC. It makes the game feel much more accessible, no matter where I am.

If you enjoy Genshin Impact and want to make in-app purchases like Genesis Crystals or Battle Passes, consider using Playstorm! You can earn rewards by playing free games on the Playstorm app, then redeem those rewards for Apple or Google Play gift cards. These can then be used to buy items in Genshin Impact across any of your linked devices.
