Is Genshin Impact Cross Platform?

Genshin Impact is fully cross-platform, meaning you can play with friends and continue your game progress across different devices. This includes PCs, iOS and Android mobile devices, PlayStation 4 and 5, and Xbox Series X/S. The game aims to offer a seamless experience regardless of the device you choose.
Genshin Impact is an action role-playing game from HoYoverse, known for its open world and elemental combat. Its wide availability and cross-platform features have helped it become very popular since its launch in 2020.
How Cross-Platform Play and Save Works
Genshin Impact supports two key cross-platform features:
- Cross-Play: This allows players on different systems to join up and explore the world of Teyvat together. For example, if you're playing on PC, you can team up with a friend who is on a PlayStation console or a mobile phone. To use cross-play, all players need to be on the same regional server and reach Adventure Rank 16. You simply add friends using their unique 9-digit UID number, which you can find in the bottom-right corner of your screen.
- Cross-Save (Cross-Progression): This feature lets you carry your game progress across different devices. Your characters, items, quest progress, and Adventure Rank are all saved to your HoYoverse account and sync seamlessly.
Platforms and Important Notes:
- PC and Mobile (iOS/Android): Cross-save is straightforward. You just log in with your HoYoverse account credentials on any of these devices, and your progress will be there.
- PlayStation (PS4/PS5) and Xbox Series X/S: If you start playing on a console, you need to link your HoYoverse account during your first login prompt. If you skip this step, the game might create a new, separate account for your console, and your progress won't sync with other platforms.
I remember when Genshin Impact first came to PlayStation, and I almost made this mistake! I had started on PC and wanted to try it on my PS5. Luckily, a friend warned me to link my existing HoYoverse account right away, or I would have had two completely separate games going. It saved me a lot of hassle.
- Nintendo Switch: A Nintendo Switch version was announced a while ago, but there is no exact release date yet, and it's been delayed indefinitely.
One cool thing about cross-save is that even Genesis Crystals (the premium currency) purchased on one platform are now usable across all linked platforms, including Battle Pass rewards. This used to have restrictions, especially with PlayStation, but those are gone.
What You Can't Do in Co-op:
When playing co-op with friends, you generally can't pick up certain items or advance the main story quests in another player's world. Co-op is mostly for exploring, taking on challenges, and fighting enemies together.
My little brother and I often play Genshin Impact together. He's on his phone, and I'm on my PC. It’s awesome because we can do daily commissions and beat up world bosses side-by-side. I once tried to finish a story quest in his world, but the game told me I couldn't progress my own story there, which made sense. We just stick to exploring and helping each other gather materials or clear domains.
Genshin Impact’s cross-platform features make it a truly accessible game, allowing you to enjoy your adventure in Teyvat with friends, no matter where or how you choose to play. Just remember to link your HoYoverse account when setting up on consoles.
If you're looking to enhance your Genshin Impact experience with in-app purchases like Genesis Crystals or Welkin Moon, you can use Playstorm to redeem Apple/Google Play gift cards. We also offer Nintendo store vouchers for any Nintendo games like Pokemon.
