How to Save in Expedition 33

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a big game with a lot to do. So, how do you make sure you don't lose all your hard work? The short answer is that the game saves for you automatically, but there are ways to make it save at specific times.
It can be frustrating when you've just beaten a tough boss or found a rare item, and you're not sure if the game has saved. I remember this one time I had just spent an hour figuring out a really tricky puzzle. I was so relieved, but then I had to quit the game suddenly. I was so worried I'd have to do it all over again! Luckily, the autosave had kicked in right after I solved it. Phew!
How Autosaving Works in Expedition 33
The game is pretty smart about when to save. It will usually autosave at key moments, like:
- After completing a major quest objective.
- When you enter a new area.
- Before and after a big boss fight.
- When you make significant progress in the story.
You'll see a little icon in the corner of the screen when the game is saving, so you'll know it's happening. It’s quick, so you won't be waiting around.
Forcing a Save
Even with autosave, sometimes you want to be extra sure your progress is locked in. There are a couple of tricks you can use to trigger a save yourself:
- Rest at an Expedition Flag: This is the most reliable way to force a save. When you find an Expedition Flag, you can choose to rest. This not only saves your game but also heals your party and refills your potions. It's a good idea to do this whenever you come across one, especially before a tough area.
- Change Your Equipment: This is a neat little trick I discovered. If you change a character's weapon or "pictos," the game will often save your progress. You can just swap to a different weapon and then swap right back, and the game will have saved. This is super handy if you're not near a flag and want to make a quick save.
I found myself using the weapon-swapping trick a lot. It gave me peace of mind, especially when I was deep in a dungeon and wasn't sure when the next save point would be. It only takes a second and can save you a lot of headaches.
